April 24, 2026, postgraduate students and faculty from INCEIF University<\/strong> visited MBSB Berhad<\/strong> in Petaling Jaya for an exclusive, unfiltered industry immersion session. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maya Puspa, the delegation engaged in an experiential dialogue designed to bridge academic theory with real-world corporate strategy, Shariah governance, and commercial banking excellence<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving beyond the traditional classroom exchange, the session brought together PhD and Master\u2019s students from across the globe for a deep dive into the engine room of Islamic banking. The visit centered on transparent, unfiltered discussions led by MBSB\u2019s C-suite: Dato\u2019 Azlan Shahrim (Group Chief Strategy Officer), Ustaz Ashraf Gomma Ali (Group Chief Shariah and Sustainability Officer), and Encik Mohd Huzaini bin Hamdi (Director of Strategic Engagement, Group Commercial Banking).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dialogue sharpened focus on the structural drivers often overlooked by external critics: the immense capital and operational rigor required to deploy Shariah-compliant infrastructure. While external critiques often suggest Islamic finance merely replicates conventional offerings, Ustaz Ashraf, Dato\u2019 Azlan and Huzaini emphasized that the industry is in reality a higher-stakes feat, navigating a dual-layer regulatory environment where the cost of compliance and end-to-end scrutiny is significant. Despite these rigorous requirements, the ability to achieve market parity proves that ethical integrity and commercial scalability are not mutually exclusive, via offerings of competitive product suites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This commitment to ethical capital allocation serves as a systemic layer of enduring societal benefit. By strictly adhering to the prohibition of Riba and redirecting capital away from industries that erode communal well-being, Islamic finance functions as a catalyst for good within the broader economy. Students were exposed to how this builds a sustainable, less speculative ecosystem where trade, the lifeblood of value creation is prioritised.
