Wing Hin Motorsports began an incredibly supercharged season with a total of six podium finishes, including two race wins, in the TSS The Super Series<\/em> and Thailand Super Series<\/em> last weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Burriram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two podium finishes \u2013 a victory in the Pro-Am Class and 2nd<\/sup> overall \u2013 kicked off its 2026 title defense campaign in the GT4 Class, followed by another four podium finishes in the Super Touring Class. The team had headed into Round 1 of both championships with a total of five cars and 10 drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In GT4<\/strong>, the action on track at the 4.554km Chang International Circuit in the opening two races of the year had all the makings of an extremely competitive season ahead as Wing Hin Motorsports sets out to retain the title it won last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekend began promisingly for the pair of Mitchell Cheah and Ryan Wong competing in the Pro-Am Class in the #39 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Cheah and Wong finished Race 1 (on Saturday) 2nd<\/sup> overall and 1st<\/sup> in the Pro-Am Class, and completed Race 2 (Sunday) in 5th<\/sup> place overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wong was entrusted to start Race 1<\/strong> and began conservatively before handing over driving duties to Cheah who used the remaining 30 minutes of the 1-hour race to chase from 7th<\/sup> place to cross the finish line in 2nd<\/sup> overall.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA good result to start the season. The team has been working hard last season and in preparation for this year and we\u2019re looking forward to the next race,\u201d said Cheah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting from pole position in Race 2<\/strong>, Cheah\u2019s drive was only in its infancy when the safety car was deployed after just three minutes, essentially disrupting his momentum and the marginal 0.8-second lead he had built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restart proved to be even more furious when a five-way scrap for the lead pushed him out of the lead, dropping to back to 4th<\/sup>. Cheah would retain that position until the compulsory driver change which saw Wong charged with the second stint and rejoined the race in 5th<\/sup> where he would retain that position to the chequered clag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Thailand Super Series Super Touring Class<\/strong>, Wing Hin Motorsports began the season incredibly strong with four podium finishes in two races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race 1<\/strong> on Saturday saw the pair of Amer Harris and Nabil Azlan in the #36 Toyota Vios claiming 2nd<\/sup> place with the #38 Toyota Yaris of Dannies Ng and Jwan Hii claiming a hard-fought 3rd<\/sup>. A second Toyota Vios, #9, piloted by Nick Teo and Ian Wong, finished in 4th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re super happy with the results! We have to thank the team for preparing a super competitive car. This is our first rookie season in the series and the competition has been tough but the team has done an incredible job of bringing us up to pace,\u201d said Hii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Race 2<\/strong> on Sunday, Amer who started from pole position, held off a fierce challenge for the race lead (that did not exceed 1.5 seconds) in the 1-hour race. At the 30-minute mark, he pitted to pass the baton to Nabil who rejoined the race retaining the slim lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 10 minutes remaining, Nabil dropped to 2nd<\/sup> position with a 1.8-second deficit but piled on the pressure to eventually overtake Thailand\u2019s P. Pasarit in the Honda CRZ in the penultimate lap. Trying to fight back for the lead Pasarit\u2019s front right wheel made the slightest of contact with Nabil\u2019s left rear wheel which result in the puncture for the former. That misfortune quickly promoted Wing Hin Motorsports\u2019 #38 Toyota Yaris of Ng and Hii to 2nd<\/sup> place, with the Thai pair of Ayrton A. and A. Norrarat completing an all-Toyota 1-2-3 finish. A post-race investigation into the incident however, later promoted Hii to 1st<\/sup> place and a five-second penalty against Nabil dropped him to 3rd<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team\u2019s #39 Yaris pair of Varunchit Wattanathanakun (Monai) with Lady driver Mekkaradkeeta Kalantananda (Ni-Ne) from Thailand finished 8th<\/sup> with Teo and Wong rounding up the weekend with a commendable 9th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good 1-2 and a very good result for us. This is my first time racing in the Super Touring Class. Last year the team also had a shot at the overall championship but things didn\u2019t really go as planned. It\u2019s still too early to predict with only one round completed but it has certainly been a very good start,\u201d said Amer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a very exciting race today! The team has been making extremely strong progress with making the car competitive and we believe we have a good shot in the coming rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 2 of the TSS The Super Series<\/em> and the Thailand Super Series<\/em> will move to the Bangsaen Grand Prix international street racing festival in Chonburi from 1-5 July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
