UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), is pleased to announce that registration for Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) 2025 is now officially open. This initiative challenges secondary school students across Malaysia to develop innovative and sustainable environmental solutions. Now in its 24th edition, this year\u2019s TEY expands its impact by doubling the number of participating schools and increasing total funding to RM167,000 to support young changemakers in their sustainability journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception in 2001, TEY has empowered nearly 600 schools and over 300,000 students across Malaysia, helping them develop the critical skills needed to become leaders of change in their communities. With its wide-reaching influence Toyota continues to support these students beyond the competition, offering mentorship, industry insights, and opportunities to apply their learning to real-world environmental challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bigger Support, Bigger Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, 30 schools will participate in TEY\u2014 double the number in previous years. Each school will receive RM3,000 in grant funding, totalling RM90,000, to kickstart their sustainability projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to project funding, students will compete for RM77,000 in cash prizes across multiple award categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Champion: RM 30,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd Place: RM 20,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3rd Place: RM 10,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Presentation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Exhibition<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving Real-World Impact through hands-on learning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, TEY participants have turned their innovative ideas into impactful projects. For instance, in Kuala Bikam, students created a system to reduce agricultural waste and improve local waste disposal, benefiting the community’s health and environment. In Penang, another group tackled marine pollution by designing and implementing a community-based clean-up initiative, helping restore marine ecosystems. Additionally, in Sarawak, students introduced sustainable farming practices to local villages, reducing reliance on harmful chemicals and promoting long-term environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of the TEY programme is Toyota\u2019s 8-Step Problem-Solving Methodology (PSM), which equips students with structured problem-solving skills. This approach helps them identify environmental issues, understand root causes, and implement practical, sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, TEY participants have addressed challenges such as waste management, water conservation, and renewable energy adoption, creating long-lasting change within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative aligns with Toyota\u2019s Environmental Action Plan, which is part of the company\u2019s goal to achieve zero CO\u2082 emissions by 2050. Through TEY, young participants are not just solving today\u2019s environmental challenges but are also being empowered to lead the way for tomorrow\u2019s solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration for TEY 2025 is now open! Schools must sign up by 3rd April 2025 to be part of this transformative experience. The official programme launches, workshops, and opening ceremonies will take place from 28th to 30th April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
