KUALA LUMPUR, 30 October 2025 — “Guangdong in Frames, Souls in Resonance — Chinese Film Week” will take place from 12 to 16 November 2025 at GSC MyTOWN, Kuala Lumpur, celebrating five remarkable Guangdong-produced films landing in Malaysia as part of the Southeast Asian tour.
The event is jointly organised by Guangzhou Film Expo and Guangzhou Performance / TV Ltd., co-organised by the Guangzhou Film Association, and facilitated by Beyond Frozen Films. It is held in association with the Malaysian official partner Blackflag Sdn. Bhd., with GSC International Screens serving as the Official Cinema Partner.
This cross-border cultural event celebrates Guangdong’s growing presence in international cinema while deepening the creative and emotional resonance between Guangdong and Southeast Asia through film.

The curated line-up includes:
- The Sun Rises on Us All, directed by Cai Shangjun, which recently made waves at the Venice Film Festival, earning actress Xin Zhilei the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her powerful performance.
- Crossing the Border – Zhaoguan, directed by Huo Meng, whose deeply human storytelling has gained acclaim across major international film festivals, including the Berlinale Silver Bear for his latest feature.
- White Snake, a distinctly Cantonese opera-inspired film, reinterpreting a beloved legend through Guangdong’s theatrical artistry.
- Back to Love, a contemporary Teochew family drama exploring generational bonds and the emotional tapestry of diaspora.
- Fall Into the Mortal World, an acclaimed Cantonese animated feature that showcases the region’s creative evolution and visual imagination.

Guangdong and Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Thailand, have long shared close geographical, historical, and cultural ties. More than fifty years ago, the Teochew opera film Tan San & Ngo Nian, produced by the Pearl River Film Studio, achieved immense popularity in both Malaysia and Thailand. The two regions’ cinematic exchanges have since continued, forming what many describe as a living “Nanyang–Guangdong connection.”
This film week seeks to rekindle that connection — using cinema as a bridge to nurture collaboration, evoke shared memories, and celebrate the creative harmony between Guangdong and Southeast Asia.
Zhao Meng Fei, Director of the Guangdong Film & Television Service Platform, Deputy President and Secretary-General of the Guangzhou Film Association, remarked: “The 2025 Guangzhou Film Expo will be held this December in Guangzhou, with the vision of being market-oriented, audience-driven, and internationally connected. The Expo aims to establish a strong trading platform for the film industry and contribute to China’s goal of becoming a global powerhouse in cinema. Through this Chinese Film Week, we are proud to present five outstanding films produced in Guangdong — serving not only as a prelude to the upcoming Film Fair but also as a cinematic celebration for audiences across Southeast Asia.”
Director Huo Meng will be in attendance to personally present Crossing the Border – Zhaoguan and engage in conversation with Malaysian audiences.
All screenings will take place at GSC MyTOWN, Kuala Lumpur. Tickets are available exclusively through GSC ticketing kiosks, website at gsc.com.my, and the GSC Mobile App.
