KUALA LUMPUR, 31 OCTOBER 2026 – Shell Café crowned the champion of its first-ever Shell Café Barista Cup at Urbanscapes 2026 today, after 10 baristas from across Malaysia competed to showcase the skill, creativity, and technical expertise behind the everyday Shell Café coffee experience.
Following a series of challenges, the field was narrowed from 10 baristas to the top five, before Muhammad Al Syamil Muhammad Nasir (Shell LPT 2 R&R Paka KT Bound) was crowned the inaugural Shell Café Barista Cup Malaysia 2026 Champion. Muhammad Haziq Mohd Yusoff (Shell Bukit Jalil TPM) took second place, while Nurul Salfika Mohd Abijurini (Shell NSE Tanjung Malim North Bound) finished third.
The competition provided a platform for Shell Café baristas to step out from behind the counter, demonstrate their abilities, and gain recognition for the craft that goes into every cup. As the Official Coffee Partner of Urbanscapes 2026, Shell Café brought that story to a wider audience in a setting that celebrates creativity, culture, and community.
From crafting the perfect espresso to developing their own signature drinks, the baristas demonstrated the skill and attention to detail that go into creating a great cup of coffee. Their creations were evaluated by two of Malaysia’s accomplished coffee professionals, Jason Loo, a four-time Malaysia Barista Champion, and Shaun Liew, a two-time Malaysia Brewers Cup Champion, alongside two representatives from Shell Malaysia.
Elevating Barista Talent
For Shell Café, developing its baristas is an important part of delivering a quality coffee experience to customers. The Barista Cup reflects this commitment by recognising its people and creating opportunities for them to step outside their everyday roles and showcase their talents and continue developing their craft.
Zairi Dzuljastri, General Manager, Shell Mobility & Convenience, Malaysia said, “When people think of Shell Café, they often think of the coffee they pick up on their way to work or during a quick stop at our stations. But behind every cup is a barista who takes pride in what they do. By helping our baristas grow, we are also strengthening the experience we deliver to customers every day.”

For Muhammad Al Syamil Muhammad Nasir, who began his coffee journey as a junior barista at Shell Café two years ago, the competition marked a significant milestone in his career. Having gained hands-on experience and training at Shell Café before progressing to his current role as Barista Supervisor, Syamil put his skills to the test in his first-ever barista competition. His winning signature drink, Jingle Zest, was inspired by his desire to create something that everyone could enjoy.
“Winning this competition means a lot to me, especially knowing that I’ve made my family, my Shell Station, and my Shell Café team proud. This is my first barista competition, and I hope to keep improving and working hard for the next one. I want to continue challenging myself and hopefully win more competitions in the future,” said Muhammad Al Syamil.
Celebrating Malaysian Creativity, One Cup at a Time
As the Official Coffee Partner of Urbanscapes 2026, Shell Café has also teamed up with Malaysian artists ThatDania and Graphnin to create four limited-edition cup designs inspired by the city. Each artist brings their own distinctive style to the collaboration, transforming an everyday coffee cup into a canvas for local creativity.
The limited-edition cups will be available at the Shell Café truck pop-up, alongside its coffee offerings and festival-exclusive merchandise. Through the collaboration and pop-up, Shell Café is bringing its everyday coffee experience into the heart of Urbanscapes while creating new ways for festivalgoers to discover local creativity.
