PIXLGROUND, the innovative creative community at FabCafe KL, is thrilled to announce its highly anticipated Volume 1 Showcase Day on Saturday, July 19, 2025. This groundbreaking event will feature five visionary Malaysian illustrators, presenting their unique interpretations of digital art transformed into tangible, one-of-a-kind collectibles.
Volume 1 of PIXLGROUND embodies a spirit of hands-on exploration and collaborative making, challenging traditional art production. Outsourcing production often strips artists of creative control, leaving them disconnected from fabrication nuances and limiting experimentation. This lack of direct involvement can stifle creative exploration, especially when inhibited by cost and material limitations.
PIXLGROUND changes this narrative. Here, artists are directly engaged in the production process, experimenting with digital fabrication techniques such as laser cutting, embroidery, and UV printing themselves. They are provided with machine time and scrap materials, encouraging playful trial and error to bring their ideas to life. The fun lies in the experimentation and discovering what works, and what new possibilities emerge. The result is a vibrant collection that blurs the lines between digital and physical artistry, where each piece is deeply informed by the hands-on journey of its creation.
“PIXLGROUND was born from a desire to empower artists and designers to see their work come to life in new, tactile ways, giving them back the creative control they often lose,” says Gwyneth Jong, co-founder of Fabcafe KL. “This first volume represents a powerful convergence of digital innovation and traditional craft, fostering a truly unique artistic expression. We are incredibly excited to share the creative journeys and remarkable outputs of these five talented individuals with the public.”
