Worryingly, by 2035, 41 percent of Malaysians are expected to be obese, which will impact the cost of healthcare. Allurion through Kitakurang provides an avenue to lose weight safely without endoscopy, surgery or anaesthesia and is one of the safest ways to manage weight for the long-term.”
Associate Professor Dr Nik Ritza has placed the Allurion Swallowable Balloon in over 500 patients who completed the 12-month programme with a combined weight loss of 5,249 kg.
The Kitakurang programme started in May 2020 and has since helped over 1,000 Malaysians lose weight with the help of Allurion. Allurion is a swallowable intragastric balloon which helps control patients’ food intake in order to lose weight. The intragastric balloon is swallowed, filled with water, takes up space in the stomach and causes a delay in gastric emptying. This results in patients feeling full longer which reduces hunger. The balloon will naturally exit the body within four months.
Within the holistic Kitakurang programme, weight-loss effort is undertaken under the guidance of a wellness team comprising qualified Medical, Public Health and Dietetics professionals. This team is available seven days a week, with the added enablement of digital tools, and each patient receives 12-months’ dietetic support with digital monitoring to track their progress.
