15 Million Washes and Counting: Empowers Malaysian Households to Save 300 Hours Annually

Kuala Lumpur, 11th December 2025 – As the nation works to increase the female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) to 60% by 2033, the latest data reveals a notable divide where women’s LFPR stands at 56.4%, compared to 83.3% for men.

Of this, many single mothers shoulder the responsibilities of both paid employment and unpaid caregiving, a challenge commonly referred to as the ‘double shift’ or ‘double burden.’

According to a 2019 survey by the Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), women in Malaysia spend significantly more time than men on unpaid care work, while devoting a similar number of hours to paid work. These tasks, which include cooking, cleaning, and caring for children, are often mentally demanding and time-sensitive.

As part of its inclusive employment policy, dobiQueen actively hires single parents and members of the B40 community by offering meaningful opportunities, job stability, and long-term support.

Most recently, the company introduced its “Single Parent Welfare Support” programme, which rewards high-performing single-parent employees with monthly incentives of up to RM500. This initiative strengthens the workforce while aligning with dobiQueen’s wider mission of empowering women and fostering a more supportive society.

Spearheading this initiative, Nini Tan, Co-founder and Executive Director of dobiQueen, said,Empowering women and strengthening families to reclaim their time to focus on what matters most has always been core to dobiQueen’s mission.

“Our Single Parent Welfare Support programme reflects our commitment to helping them build stability, confidence, and long-term success. When single parents are empowered, this strengthens families, and communities flourish from there,” added Nini.

Personalised Raya bags were gifted to children in collaboration with Dignity for Children Foundation.

Dedicated to supporting underserved communities, dobiQueen regularly collaborates with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that empower community and women’s welfare, including the Dignity for Children Foundation, Kintry, PichaEats, Komuniti Tukang Jahit (KTJ), and The Asli Co.

To date, this collaboration has supported single mothers, refugee mothers, and women from the B40 income group, helping them generate income and hone skills.

Malaysians Turn to Launderettes to Claim Their Time and Energy

While championing Malaysia’s broader goals of social and economic inclusion, dobiQueen is redefining everyday convenience. A recent customer survey by dobiQueen reveals that an increasing number of families, working individuals, and students are opting for professional launderette services to reclaim their valuable time.

By outsourcing laundry, customers are now saving 150 to 300 hours a year, equivalent to 25 hours a month or 6 hours each week. This substantial time savings frees up schedules, reduces stress, and enables more flexibility in their daily lives.

Consumer data tracking over 15 million washes reveals that:

  • 41% of users have shared that they can utilise the extra time to bond with their children;
  • 32% use it to enjoy dining out and social activities;
  • 19% reinvest it into managing or growing their businesses, and
  • 8% dedicate their time to self-care.

Globally, this aligns with the adoption of self-service laundry services as the Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region, driven by rapid urbanisation, growing middle-class populations, and widespread smartphone penetration.

With over a decade of experience in the laundry industry, dobiQueen has gained valuable insights into the laundry habits of hundreds of thousands of customers through data collected via its proprietary mobile application.

Whether at home, work, or on the move, the app helps customers locate the nearest dobiQueen outlet. Customers can start washing or drying machines instantly through QR code scanning, removing the need for in-outlet kiosks, buttons, or token usage.

Nini Tan, Co-founder and Executive Director of dobiQueen, said, “With over 90 outlets across the Klang Valley, we’ve witnessed firsthand how our laundrette services can make a meaningful impact, giving Malaysians more time and energy back in their daily lives”.

Expanding Nationwide, Benchmarking Against Global Laundrette Leaders

With expansion plans to 20 outlets per year, dobiQueen aims to expand in Sabah and Sarawak, covering two main cities, namely 10 in Kota Kinabalu and 10 in Kuching.

In staying ahead in the industry, Nini Tan, Co-founder and Executive Director of dobiQueen, said, At dobiQueen, we actively benchmark against global leaders in the laundry industry, particularly Japan and Korea, who are well-known for their advanced technologies.

“While Korea remains ahead in automation and convenience, we focus on adapting those innovations to suit local Malaysian consumer behaviour. In Malaysia, we prioritise features that build customer trust and security.

“Interestingly, while Japan is technologically advanced, many laundromats there still rely on physical tokens and have e-payment systems limited to domestic users. Malaysia, by contrast, has leapfrogged some of these limitations. Our payment systems are more inclusive and can cater to both local and international users.”

Overall, the laundry service market is valued at US$45.85 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach US$273.0 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 29.3% during the forecast period from 2025 to 2032.
