CelcomDigi’s Anti-Scam Booklet: Trends and tips to stay Awas Always

PETALING JAYA, 23 March 2023 – Over 25,000 cases of cyber-crimes involving over RM855 million reported in 2022*, shows a worrying trend of scams and frauds in Malaysia. To proactively tackle this epidemic, CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) has developed an anti-scam booklet, among other materials, to equip Malaysians with the right knowledge and tools to prevent from falling victims.

The booklet was produced as part of a national awareness campaign, Jelajah Anti-Scam Kebangsaan 2023 (JAS23), jointly organised by CelcomDigi, CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) and the Malaysian Crime PreventionFoundation (MCPF). The booklet provides simplified information on common types of scams, how to identify the different tactics used to deceive people, as well as prevention tips and how to report them. It also highlights other online safety education to guard against cyberbullying, cyber grooming, and data theft, in the form of comics for easy reading and understanding.

CelcomDigi’s Head of Sustainability Philip Ling said with combined strengths, CelcomDigi now has the resources to reach out to more Malaysians and drive a widespread scam and fraud prevention knowledge.

“We are guided by the simple principle to ACT – to create Awareness, drive high Compliance internally while supporting enforcement agencies and leverage Technology in the best way to fight this war against cybercrimes and build relevant safeguards. We believe in collective action and building an ecosystem of partners is key to solve national issues such as scams and frauds.

“As scammers grow more advanced in their methods to entrap unsuspecting users, we want to equip Malaysians with the best possible ways to spot, avoid and report these scams. Through efforts such as the JAS23 campaign, we want to foster responsible use of technology fora safer internet experience for all.”

The booklet, which can be downloaded HERE, will be distributed to all the Pusat Ekonomi Digital (PEDi) managed by CelcomDigi and also during the JAS23 nationwide roadshow beginning in June. Apart from this, the public can refer to more internet safety education resources, including guidebooks for parents and children, infographics and a video series from the Safe Internet portal or learn more about scams and frauds from Kekal Selamat or Awas Always webpages.
