DKSH Partners With The Lost Food Project to Combat Urban Poverty in Malaysia

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, February 2, 2023 – DKSH, a leading partner for companies seeking to grow their businesses in Asia and beyond, has been taking a targeted effort in redistributing food and reducing product waste through their long-term partnership with The Lost Food Project (TLFP) – a not-for-profit organization dedicated to a sustainable future by rescuing “lost” food and finding a new home for it with people who need it most.

Since 2018, DKSH has been providing surplus products that are safe and edible, including vegetables, dry goods, dairy products, drinks, condiments, and canned food, to TLFP to be distributed to over 60 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that serve the elderly, orphans, disabled, homeless, refugees, and lower-income households as well as thousands of B40 communities.

Through this meaningful collaboration that is in line with DKSH’s Sustainability Framework, which focuses on “Our People – Our Partners – Our Planet”, DKSH has donated about 29,000 kilograms of nutritious surplus food and provided more than 83,000 meals to the urban poor in 2022. This effort has also successfully prevented over 72,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide from being produced.

The Lost Food Project CEO, Tuan Haji Ab Wahab Bin Long, said: “Malaysians are still throwing away plenty of edible food daily, while some in the community are still going to bed hungry. We hope that through collaborations like this one with DKSH, we can all work together to create a more sustainable future.”

About The Lost Food Project

The Lost Food Project is a non-profit organization in Malaysia dedicated to a sustainable future by rescuing quality, nutritious surplus food (that would otherwise end up in landfill) and distributing it to those in need. TLFP has distributed over 38,504 meals since 2021 by collaborating with retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors. A total of 13,476 kg of food was diverted from landfill and redirected to feed those in need, saving 33,690 kg of greenhouse gas emissions
