Empowering Change Through Community Unity
SHAH ALAM, 28 JUNE 2024 – UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) announced the success of the third edition of the Toyota START YOUR IMPOSSIBLE Outrun, held recently at Dataran Merdeka. The charity run, part of Toyota’s global Start Your Impossible (SYI) campaign, saw over 6,000 participants this year and raised RM200,000 for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM). This remarkable turnout demonstrates the growing support and enthusiasm for this meaningful event that rallies runners for a noble cause while embracing Toyota’s mission of Mobility for All.
The Toyota START YOUR IMPOSSIBLE campaign was created to honour Toyota’s shift to a mobility company and its longstanding worldwide partnership with the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, which aimed at fostering an inclusive and innovative mobility culture. Aligned with this campaign, UMWT has been hosting the annual Toyota Outrun, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and enhancing its youthful brand image and leadership in innovative mobility solutions.
Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMWT, said, “The Toyota START YOUR IMPOSSIBLE Outrun exemplifies our commitment to Move Your World. Apart from promoting physical activity, it fosters social responsibility and empowers individuals to use mobility for positive change. This event inspires participants to challenge their limits and support a meaningful cause.”
Beyond the impressive turnout and funds raised, the Toyota START YOUR IMPOSSIBLE Outrun 2024 ignited moments of personal triumph and camaraderie. Participants from diverse backgrounds, including over 200 international participants, came together, sharing stories of resilience and collective determination in the fight against cancer. As the event concluded against the backdrop of Dataran Merdeka, it left a lasting impression of achievement and unity, inspiring future editions to continue pushing boundaries and fostering positive change.
Building on the achievements of previous years, this year’s event offered a variety of categories, including a 10KM race with an RM50,000 prize pool, alongside a 5KM Fun Run category. These events provided an inclusive opportunity for participants of various age groups to join in the excitement and support a charitable mission. Notably, it offered the largest prize money in its category with a wide distribution across top positions, enhancing its appeal among competitive runners and casual participants alike.
“We hope that the proceeds from the event will significantly bolster NCSM’s initiatives, including Community Cancer and Health Screening programs, the transformative Jejak Kanser, and Vaccination Drives. Additionally, these funds will ensure daily transportation for patients residing in Children and Adult’s Homes, providing them with essential access to medical care.” Datuk Ravindran K. added.
In 2019, UMWT organised the first-ever Toyota Outrun as part of this initiative, with Malaysia’s very own Paralympian Abdul Latif as the ambassador. This inaugural event successfully raised RM151,000 through the Paralympic Council Malaysia. Since then, the event has grown significantly in both participation and funds raised, becoming a cornerstone of Toyota’s commitment to promoting mobility and supporting charitable causes in Malaysia. Looking ahead, UMWT is committed to exploring the possibility of expanding the run event to include both a half marathon and a full marathon, with a vision for it to become a major running event in the country.
