UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is ready to lead crucial discussions on sustainable mobility as the official Beyond Zero Partner at the upcoming International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia 2024 (IGEM). The event runs from 9th to 11th October 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), and will see Toyota showcase its multi-pathway strategy towards Carbon Neutrality, a key pillar of its global vision.
A Multi-Pathway Approach to Sustainability
Toyota’s participation at IGEM amplifies its belief that achieving net zero requires more than just one pathway to achieve speed and scale. The automaker’s multi-pathway approach leverages a broad spectrum of technologies, from hybrid electric vehicles to hydrogen fuel cell technology, to reduce emissions immediately across different mobility scenarios. Toyota’s latest innovations on display include the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle and the Innova Zenix Hybrid Electric, both of which represent key milestones in Toyota’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor said, “Here at Toyota, we are committed to delivering practical solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers while supporting the nation’s carbon reduction goals. Our Multi-Pathway approach demonstrates that there is no single solution to sustainability, but a combination of technologies that offer immediate impact and long-term potential. By embracing this full spectrum of innovations, we are ensuring that Malaysians have access to mobility options that are not only environmentally friendly but also reliable and accessible. Our participation in IGEM reinforces our dedication to contributing to a greener future, in line with Malaysia’s vision for sustainable development.”
This approach reflects Toyota’s understanding that different regions face unique challenges on the road to Carbon Neutrality. In Asia, where many countries are at various stages of adopting green technologies, Toyota’s diverse solutions offer flexibility to the end customer in reducing emissions without compromising on performance or accessibility.
Driving the Future of Mobility at Mobility-X
Toyota’s leadership in this space will be highlighted on 10th October 2024, when Pras Ganesh, Executive Vice President, of Toyota Motor Asia, will deliver a keynote at Mobility-X, a key segment of IGEM dedicated to the future of transportation. Mobility-X will bring together thought leaders and innovators to discuss how integrated mobility solutions can tackle the climate crisis and drive the transition towards cleaner, smarter transport systems across Asia.
In his keynote, Pras Ganesh will outline Toyota’s commitment and initiatives towards achieving Carbon Neutrality in 2050 through their Multi-Pathway approach to achieve mass and accessible electrification that serves the diverse mobility needs of every customer and furthermore explain the need to have a comprehensive and responsible approach to tackle emissions throughout the vehicle life cycle, from the cradle to the grave.
“We believe that by offering the Multi-Pathway technologies, from fuel efficient ICEs including those powered by alternative energy like biofuel, hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen-powered vehicles, we can help accelerate the region’s journey to a sustainable future where no one is left behind. IGEM provides us with the perfect platform to showcase how these technologies can work in harmony to meet the unique needs of all stakeholders, based on Malaysia’s unique context” added Pras Ganesh.
Green Mobility: A Growing Industry Imperative
As the transportation sector accounts for a significant portion of global carbon emissions, the shift towards green mobility has become an industry imperative. Toyota has been at the forefront of this transition, having sold over 23 million electrified vehicles globally. The company’s long-standing investment in hybrid electric technology has not only reduced carbon emissions but also paved the way for further advancements in battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
In Malaysia, Toyota continues to lead the charge with an increasing portfolio of electrified vehicles, designed to align with the government’s efforts to reduce the nation’s carbon footprint. Toyota’s presence at IGEM marks another step in reinforcing this commitment, as the company showcases scalable and practical solutions that are tailored to both consumer needs and national environmental goals.
IGEM 2024 will be officially launched on 10th October 2024 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Other high-ranking officials scheduled to attend include the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy, and the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.
