The Pearl Jubilee celebration, made even more vibrant with the staging of the musical theatre ‘Sakti Merong Mahawangsa’

The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) proudly celebrates its Pearl Jubilee, marking 30 years since its founding as Malaysia’s premier arts education institution.

As a highlight of the celebration, ASWARA will present a special musical theatre production, “Sakti Merong Mahawangsa”, an epic work that brings together historical narrative, art, and culture in an inspiring musical theatre format.

This anniversary celebration also reflects the close collaboration between ASWARA and the ASWARA Alumni Association, both committed to promoting the sustainability of Malaysia’s arts, culture and heritage.

The “Sakti Merong Mahawangsa” production is a modern, dynamic interpretation of Malaysia’s historical legend, recounting Merong Mahawangsa’s journey in establishing Kedah Zamin Turan, now known as the state of Kedah.

This theatre piece was selected to symbolise ASWARA’s unwavering spirit in preserving and uplifting the nation’s values of art and heritage.

“The story of Merong Mahawangsa embodies ASWARA’s struggle to overcome challenges and its steadfast dedication to the arts and culture. We hope this theatre production showcases not only the talent and commitment of ASWARA alumni but also our aspiration to continually empower Malaysia’s cultural and artistic heritage,” said ASWARA Registrar, En Amirudin Mad Yusof

The theatre production will also feature the talents of ASWARA alumni, as a mark of appreciation for their achievements in the national arts scene, including cast members such as Aris Kadir, Ezdianie Hayatie, Hairi Safwan, Talha Harith, Fadhli Masoot, Saiful Wazien, Amirul Hakim, Fiza Thomas, Aznie, Mei Fen, Najua P. The performance, scheduled from 22 November to 24 November, will be held at Pentas 1, klpac, and will include main programmes such as the Matinee Show, Gala Night Show and Ekspresi Merong-Alumni Homecoming.

With over 300 members who have graduated from ASWARA, these alumni are a testament to ASWARA’s success in producing a generation of professional artists who are active not only locally but also on the international stage.
