Empowering Students with Clearer Vision, One Jelly at a Time

Kinohimitsu, the leaders in bio-nutraceutical and cosmeceutical supplements, has joined forces with Pertubuhan Mata Kasih Kuala Lumpur (PMKKL), a non-profit organization dedicated to eye health, to support their communityfocused initiative, an Eye Screening Programme (Mata Jelas, Belajar Cerdas!) built to improve eye health and vision care for students around Klang Valley.

The Three Pillars of the Project

The initiative is built on three core objectives:

Eye Health Screening & Diagnostics – SpecTruck, in collaboration with Sonobee Ultrasound and optometric students from SEGI University & Colleges, conducts initial vision screenings to identify common eye problems among students. When more complex cases arise, SEGI’s experienced optometric faculty steps in, providing advanced diagnostic assessments to detect underlying eye conditions or diseases, ensuring timely intervention and preventing further complications.

Recycling & Repurposing Eyewear – In collaboration with SpecTruck, collected eyewear is refurbished and redistributed to underprivileged communities, providing access to vision correction for those who need it most. Meanwhile, GTC Associates and Pamarai, a waste management expert, plays a key role in ensuring that eyeglass frames that cannot be refurbished are responsibly repurposed instead, minimizing waste and contributing to a circular ecosystem in eyewear recycling.

Industry Learning & Education – SEGI University & Colleges, a leading institution in optometric studies, provides students with invaluable hands-on experience through this eye screening programme. Working alongside experienced professionals, students gain real-world skills in patient care, diagnostic procedures, and community outreach, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application. Additionally, the Chartered Institute of Compliance & Accreditation (CICA) further reinforces high standards by awarding ESG certifications to all stakeholders, including benefactors of the programme and participating schools, further promoting this shared commitment to optimal, quality eye care.

By integrating screening, sustainability, and education, the robust pillars of this eye screening programme aim to create a lasting impact on both vision health and the future of the optometry industry in Malaysia.

United In Vision

The Project acknowledges the significance of good vision for academic success, as emphasized by its ‘Mata Jelas, Belajar Cerdas’ maxim. This compelling vision has garnered support from a range of funding partners, including Kino Biotech (M) Sdn Bhd (Kinohimitsu), L’OCCITANE Foundation, CIMB Foundation, Rotary Club of Rahman Putra & Rotary Club of KL Sentral, and Lions Club of Damansara Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to the generous support of the funding partners, the eye screening programme has also benefitted greatly from the contributions of the aforementioned key institutions, including SpecTruck Sdn Bhd, SEGI University & Colleges, Sonobee Ultrasound Sdn Bhd, Adastra Intellectual Property Sdn Bhd (ADASTRA), Chartered Institute of Compliance & Accreditation (CICA), GTC Associates, and Infra Mobile Digital Sdn Bhd and Pamarai Sdn Bhd. Each partner has brought in expertise and resources from their respective fields that have been invaluable towards the success of the program.

PHASE 1: Visiting Klang Valley Primary & Secondary Schools:

In Phase 1, the eye screening programme will conduct its workshop at the following schools in Klang Valley:

  • SJKC Sungai Buloh

  • SMJK Chong Hwa
  • SMK La Salle
  • SJKC Imbi
  • Victoria Institution
  • SMK Dato Lokman

By reaching out to as many schools as possible, this collaborative initiative seeks to create a positive ripple effect down the line, creating a supportive environment throughout the region that continuously accentuates and encourages ongoing efforts that promote eyecare.

A video showcasing the project’s concept, goals and its potential impact have also been presented to further unify objectives and inspire support of the program. This eye screening programme is endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Education.

Kinohimitsu JellyBoost Lutein: Supporting the Mission of Vision

Kinohimitsu is excited to announce the launch of Kinohimitsu JellyBoost Lutein at SJKC Sungai Buloh on this 25th of February 2025, coinciding with the workshop being conducted at the primary school. This groundbreaking jelly-based supplement is designed to protect and nourish the eyes, particularly in today’s digital age where prolonged screen exposure can lead to eye strain and fatigue.

Kinohimitsu JellyBoost Lutein is formulated with a potent blend of natural ingredients, including marigold extract, a rich source of lutein and zeaxanthin. These carotenoids are essential for maintaining eye health, as they act as antioxidants, shielding the eyes from harmful blue light emitted by our screens.

Lutein and zeaxanthin accumulate in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. By fortifying the macula with these nutrients, JellyBoost Lutein helps to reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in older adults.

Kinohimitsu, a brand renowned for its unwavering commitment to community-driven initiatives, has once again demonstrated its dedication by generously sponsoring spectacles and Kinohimitsu JellyBoost Lutein to B40 groups. This contribution underscores the company’s deep-rooted belief in corporate social responsibility and its unwavering desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. By investing in the well-being of the community, Kinohimitsu not only reinforces its reputation as a socially conscious brand but also fosters a stronger bond with its consumers, creating a lasting legacy of positive impact.
