SHAH ALAM, 29 November 2023 – Get ready for a unique experience as Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (“MBI”) takes the lead in boosting eco-tourism in Sabak Bernam with Karnival Ban Canal 2023 happening from 8 to 10 December 2023. In collaboration with the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) and the Selangor Canoe Association (SCAN), this community carnival aims to showcase the natural treasures and culture of the area, while emphasising sustainable tourism practices.
Sabak Bernam, known for its rich cultural tapestry and scenic landscape, is poised to emerge as a haven for eco-conscious travellers with the carnival featuring a range of activities that embrace Sabak Bernam’s natural beauty. From touring and marathon kayaking to innovative boat design competitions promoting eco-friendly principles, Karnival Ban Canal showcases the area’s commitment to protecting its waterways. The decorated raft competition will add a touch of community unity and creativity, while the Paddy Field Run aptly named Larian Bendang, where participants don farmer costumes for a unique running experience along the paddy fields, injects local flavour into the festivities.
Karnival Ban Canal 2023 promises an exhilarating experience with exciting prizes awaiting winners, infusing excitement and healthy competition into the festivities. Other activities include colouring contests, cooking competitions, exhibitions, a selection of Sabak Bernam’s unique food, and the opportunity to meet the stars of Selangor FC.
Karnival Ban Canal will be a key annual event under the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) initiative, championed by MBI to uplift the economic well-being of the region and its communities.
Ban Canal, also known as ‘Bangkenal,’ holds historical significance as a key infrastructure in Selangor. Constructed collaboratively by villagers and the British during the colonial era, this 30km canal, which originates in Tanjong Karang and flows into Sabak Bernam, serves as an irrigation system to supply sufficient water for paddy fields. Over time, it has also become a recreational destination, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of the local community.
Save the dates from December 8-10 to participate and celebrate Karnival Ban Canal 2023, while discovering Sabak Bernam. For detailed information on the programs and how to join, please visit https://www.instagram.com/sabak_bernam_development_area/.
