The 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup Season 7 champion is set to crowned one of the Malaysia’s finest simulator racers as the Grand Final take place on 27 – 28 July 2024 at the Sunway University Campus.
Organized by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, the two-day event is open to the public and will kick off with the Semi-Final on 27 July to select the fastest drivers who will go on to compete in the Grand Final on 28 July for the total prize pool of RM120,500.
In addition to the finalists vying for the Championship, this year’s Grand Final event will also host a special race for the top 10 students from the GR Tour. These student racers from Sunway University, USM Nibong Tebal, MMU, UKM, UITM Pasir Gudang will be competing for their share of the prize pool and to make their universities proud.
In addition to several exhibition races that will be held over the weekend which featuring the TGR Rookies (young drivers competing in the GR Vios Challenge) and members of the Media, the public is also invited to challenge their friends in sim racing to win merchandise, browse special Tomica die cast model cars and exclusive Gazoo Racing apparel for sale, as well as take in the exciting showcase of Toyota vehicles on display.
Back in the chase for a 4th Toyota GR GT Cup Champion title is Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira who will again be joined by formidable adversaries in the form of last year’s runners-up Dhanesh Wigneswaran and Chong Kai Chang, as well as the 2022 champion Muhammad Iqbal.
In the semi-final, the 20 contenders will pilot the GR Corolla Morizo Edition and the GR Supra RZ in taking on the 5km Alsace track in France and the 4,25km Deep Forest Raceway in Switzerland respectively.
The top 10 finalists will then advance to the Grand Final to compete in three individual races and the racer with the highest accumulated points will be declared champion. The finalists will be battling behind the wheel of a GR010 Hybrid prototype car and a GR Supra Racing Concept at Monza in Italy, and on the infamous 13.6km Circuit De La Sarthe in Le Mans, France.
Like previous year, the top three drivers will in addition to taking home rewarding prize monies, go on to represent Malaysia in the GR GT Cup Asia for a chance to also compete in the World Finals. The qualifiers for the GR GT Cup began in June with close to 1,000 participants competing.
“Simulator racing continues to grow exponentially globally and is today considered an important step for any individual intending to make that transition to real life racing or to enhance his skills. It has also become an important pre-requisite in the selection and training of candidates who join our GAZOO Racing Young Driver Development Program for a chance to compete as a Rookie in the GR Vios Challenge,” said UMW Toyota Motor President Datuk Ravindran K.

The GR GT Cup Grand Final is open to the public and will be held from 10am to 6pm at the Sunway University campus. Entrance is free.
